Jay and Kara Strite Jay and Kara started Ravens Roost in a small Northern California town. They have recently relocated the shop to Texas where more spacious facilities make it easier to get even more done!
Owner and head gunsmith of Ravens Roost , Jay specializes in both producing custom made firearms based on the Old West using the same techniques as the old masters and creating high quality Tactical firearms. As a part time instructor at Lassen College Gunsmithing School he is committed to preserving and passing on the art of gunsmithing to the next generation of gunsmiths and as an NRA certified Law Enforcement Amourer committed to ensuring law enforcement has the skills needed to keep needed equipment functioning at its peak. In addition, with his experience designing production and training systems for small businesses in developing countries, and time spent overseas as Munitions Maintenance Technician with the United States Air Force, Jay is well equipped to train armourers both domestically and internationally. In his spare time Jay is an avid researcher and historian of gunsmiths and gunsmithing.
As part owner of Ravens Roost gunsmithing, Kara has run the behind the scenes business operations for 7 years.
Walt Kirst
After 42 years as an engineer and Tool and Die maker in the manufacturing industries with experience in design, development and implementation of manufacturing equipment and facilities, Walt combined his experience and love of firearms equipment to design the Kirst Cartridge Konverter. He holds a patent on this family of conversion devices for reproduction cap and ball firearms and runs the company that produces and markets the devices. Walt’s experience in the management, industrial training, and organizational development of a variety of manufacturing functions serves him well as he today he teaches both hobby cowboy shooters and high tech professionals.
